Pre-Launch (Product Development & MVP)
MVP Launch
In the early stages of Rezi, Jacob Jacquet launched the most minimal viable product (MVP) possible. This MVP simply reformatted user input into a resume template that he had previously shared on Reddit. The launch was done without any authentication or database features, focusing solely on the core functionality of resume creation. This lean approach allowed Rezi to enter the market quickly and start gathering user feedback.
Viral Reddit Post
Jacob created a post on Reddit sharing his resume template, which went viral. This post generated significant interest, with many users requesting the template. Recognizing the demand, he decided to create a website to sell the template, which ultimately led to the founding of Rezi. This strategy effectively leveraged the Reddit community to gain initial traction and validate the product idea.
Launch Stage
Development Driven Growth
Rezi focused on continuous development driven by user feedback, launching numerous new features to enhance the resume-building experience. This included AI Keyword Targeting, Real-Time Content Analysis, and various resume formats. The strategy emphasized creating a well-designed software that meets user needs, which was crucial for attracting and retaining users.
Product Launch & Viral Growth
Rezi launched three significant products on Product Hunt, including a Chrome Extension that turned LinkedIn profiles into resumes. Each launch gained more traction, with the last becoming the product of the day. Additionally, a viral Reddit post led to 11,000 new users in under 10 hours, showcasing the power of community engagement and organic reach.
SaaS Transition
In September 2019, after three and a half years of development, Rezi transitioned from a basic MVP to a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. This new version included essential features such as user authentication and resume management. The addition of these features marked a significant upgrade from the original MVP, allowing users to manage their resumes more effectively and paving the way for future enhancements.
