Circle solves the problem of fragmented community engagement for creators and brands. The end users are content creators and community builders who need a unified platform to manage discussions, events, and monetization. Solving this problem is important as it allows creators to build deeper connections with their audiences and grow their businesses sustainably.Their unfair advantage
Circle's unfair advantage lies in its all-in-one platform that integrates various community engagement tools, allowing creators to manage their entire business without the distractions of traditional social media.Strategies
Pre-Launch (Product Development & MVP)
Community Building through Engagement-Driven Experiences
Sid Yadav and his co-founders recognized the need for a community platform that emphasized engagement over mere content delivery. They developed Circle as an all-in-one community platform that integrates discussions, live streams, events, and online courses. This approach was rooted in their belief that meaningful human connections are essential for creators to build sustainable businesses. They focused on creating a platform that supports both asynchronous and synchronous interactions, allowing community builders to foster deeper relationships among members.
Building a Waitlist
Before launching Circle, Sid Yadav and his co-founders created a waitlist in January 2020 to gauge interest in their community platform. They announced their vision and mission on social media, which led to a viral tweet that attracted around 500 sign-ups within weeks. This waitlist grew to over a thousand people, providing them with a pool of potential early adopters to engage with once the product was ready.
Customer Discovery Interviews
Before launching Circle, Sudhir and his co-founders engaged in extensive customer discovery by talking to potential users about their daily challenges and needs. They specifically sought feedback on the disjointed experiences users faced with existing community platforms. This process led them to identify the need for an all-in-one community platform that could integrate various functionalities like community building, course selling, and event management. Their conversations with users, including a YouTuber teaching German, helped shape the product vision and validate the idea before any development began.
Rapid Prototyping and MVP Development
After deciding on the concept for Circle, the team quickly moved to create a minimum viable product (MVP). They booked an Airbnb in Santa Monica to focus on building the first version of Circle, which they completed within three months. This early version was not perfect, but it was sufficient to attract their first customers. The team prioritized design and user experience, ensuring that the product aligned with their vision of an all-in-one platform for creators.
Launch Stage
Integration of Multiple Use-Cases
During the launch of Circle, the team aimed to reduce the number of tools creators needed by integrating various functionalities into one platform. They introduced features like event spaces, chat functionalities, and live streaming capabilities, which eliminated the need for separate tools like Zoom or Slack. This all-in-one approach was designed to streamline the user experience and make it easier for creators to manage their communities without juggling multiple platforms.
